Molasses Scones
A quick batter recipe and fast cooking time give you hot, homemade bread in just 20 minutes.

Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 cup dark molasses
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Directions
Preheat oven to 400°F. Grease a baking sheet.
Combine flour, molasses, buttermilk, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a large mixing bowl. Beat until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface. Shape into a 1/2-inch-thick square. Cut square into quarters.
Arrange squares on prepared baking sheet. Score diagonally into quarters.
Bake until golden, about 8 minutes. Let stand to cool. Break each square along score lines and serve.
Secret Tip
If you prefer, you can use a 10-inch cast-iron skillet to cook the scones. To keep them from touching and, therefore, sticking together, cook two at a time. If you have a 12-inch cast-iron skillet or a griddle, you can cook them all at once.
