Ingredients

  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.

  2. Combine chocolate chips and butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on MEDIUM (50% power) for 2 minutes; stir. Microwave for 2 minutes longer. Stir until smooth.

  3. Add condensed milk, flour and vanilla to chocolate mixture and mix well. Add pecans and mix well. Drop by tablespoonfuls onto baking sheets.

  4. Bake until crisp around the edges, about 71/2 to 8 minutes. Cool cookies on baking sheets for 2 minutes. Transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Secret Tip

Using a medium or low setting to melt the chocolate chips is critical, because when chocolate is heated at too high a setting too quickly, it "seizes," that is, the mixture turns into a solid lump. For the best results, microwave for 20 to 30 seconds at a time, then stop and stir.
