Burgers & Basil Mayonnaise
Everyone loves burgers. This recipe is especially good for casual company because it combines the appeal of a burger with the refined flavor of basil mayonnaise.
Prep Time:
Cooking Time: 45 minutes
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 3 pounds ground beef chuck
- 3 large eggs
- 3 tablespoons steak sauce
- 3 tablespoons steak sauce
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 3/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 12 ounces Cheddar cheese, thinly sliced
- 10 hamburger buns, heated or grilled
Directions
Preheat grill.
Process mayonnaise, basil, vinegar and garlic powder in a blender until blended. Store, covered, in refrigerator.
Combine ground chuck, eggs, steak sauce, salt and black pepper in a large bowl and mix well. Shape into 10 patties.
Grill patties 6 inches from heat for 5 minutes. Turn patties over. Grill until an instant-read thermometer inserted in centers of patties registers 160°F, about 3 to 5 minutes longer. Top with Cheddar.
Spread mayonnaise mixture on cut sides of buns. Arrange 1 pattie on each bun bottom. Layer with tomato slices, dill pickles and lettuce, if desired. Top with bun tops.
Secret Tip
Ground beef is at its best when only lightly handled. If you're in the habit of mixing ground beef for a long time, then working each pattie into the perfect shape, give yourself a break. Mix lightly just to blend, then just pat each pattie until it holds its shape. You'll be rewarded with a moister burger.
