Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 10 slices raisin bread
  • 1 1/2 cups vanilla wafer crumbs
  • 4 tablespoons butter, divided
  • Maple syrup

Directions

  1. Beat eggs in a shallow bowl. Add orange juice and mix well.

  2. Dip bread slices in egg mixture. Coat with vanilla wafer crumbs.

  3. Heat 1 tablspoon butter in a large skillet over medium heat.

  4. Cook coated bread in batches in hot butter until lightly browned, about 1 to 2 minutes per

  5. side, adding butter as needed. Serve with additional butter and maple syrup.

Secret Tip

If you don't keep raisin bread on hand, any dry bread will do; leftover French bread, naturally, makes great French toast, as does Italian bread. French toast made with sourdough bread is really something special.
