Orange French Toast
With the same amount of work that it takes to make ordinary French toast, you can have a much more flavorful and stylish breakfast or brunch.
Prep Time:
Cooking Time: 45 minutes
Ingredients
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup orange juice
- 10 slices raisin bread
- 1 1/2 cups vanilla wafer crumbs
- 4 tablespoons butter, divided
- Maple syrup
Directions
Beat eggs in a shallow bowl. Add orange juice and mix well.
Dip bread slices in egg mixture. Coat with vanilla wafer crumbs.
Heat 1 tablspoon butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
Cook coated bread in batches in hot butter until lightly browned, about 1 to 2 minutes per
side, adding butter as needed. Serve with additional butter and maple syrup.
Secret Tip
If you don't keep raisin bread on hand, any dry bread will do; leftover French bread, naturally, makes great French toast, as does Italian bread. French toast made with sourdough bread is really something special.
